Least Cost Routing and Fraud Detection for Oracle Acme Packet Networks

The Solution

FLTG implemented the TransNexus NexOSS platform in early 2012 in response to their need for a least cost routing (LCR) system that would integrate with their existing Oracle Acme Packet based network. The TransNexus NexOSS solution is an Acme Packet Open Session Routing Ecosystem application which provides least cost routing for inter-state, intra-state, and international calls. It consists of a suite of integrated back office applications which complement the operation of OSPrey Route Servers.

“We found the TransNexus system paid for itself within the first three months of use based on the savings we achieved in call termination costs” said Bill Doran, Director, ISP and Access Services at FLTG. “The TransNexus team worked closely with us from the beginning of the implementation to make sure we had the right configuration for our needs, and then made sure the system was installed, turned-up, and operating cleanly. It has run flawlessly since the initial implementation, and we’re extremely pleased with the system and the people at TransNexus.”

The NexOSS platform also includes integrated telecom fraud detection and prevention features. NexOSS senses when there is an unusual spike in call traffic to a specific destination. When a suspicious spike occurs, the NexOSS system simply and automatically puts a temporary block on the route, ensuring that telecom fraud losses are kept to an absolute minimum without interrupting legitimate calls.

According to Doran, “We have found that our NexOSS has detected and automatically blocked a number of fraud attempts, saving us many thousands of dollars over what we might have paid had we not had this system in place.”
